Following its debut in Asia on February 27, the release of the highly coveted CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 “K.O.D.” saw it’s official North America release this past weekend held at a special JUICE Los Angeles pop-up. First released in 2006, the CLOT x Nike AM1 “K.O.D.” marked CLOT’s debut footwear collaboration with Nike and has since remained as one of the most coveted Air Max collabs to date. The sneaker serves as a perfect example of what CLOT embodies as a label: bridging the gap between Eastern and Western cultures. The inspiration behind the “K.O.D.”’s design stems from the ancient Chinese practice of reflexology, a belief that areas of the foot correspond directly with the rest of the body. Stylistic elements and traditional iconographies from the practice were designed to match the ebb and flow of Nike’s ever-classic Air Max 1 silhouette.

The new iteration of the “K.O.D.” comes 15 years later boasting its original colorway but with an updated construction. This 2021 edition sees a new perforated toe cap that keeps its transparent effect—a much-loved and highly innovative design element to the 2006 original release. Other new details include a reflective red heel tab and slight updates to the reflexology graphics found on the insole and outsole.

The North America release of the CLOT x Nike AM1 “K.O.D.” was hosted by global retail brand JUICE at a special 2-day pop-up event held within Downtown LA’s Arts District. Bringing in a steady stream of sneakerheads, CLOT fans and notable names within the fashion industry from across the city, the release event paid homage to the sneaker’s theme with a traditional Chinese reflexology set up within the pop-up. Adorning the space were CLOT-branded ancient Chinese furniture with decorative CLOT stress balls, framed reflexology artwork and CLOT-branded reflexology doctor coats specially created for the event. To further its theme, a CLOT x Kuumba International incense chamber wafted ancient Chinese fragrances throughout. In addition to the CLOT x Nike AM1 “K.O.D” pairs being sold at the event, JUICE Los Angeles also offered CLOT Silk face masks in a range of colors.
