A beautiful and unique fusion of Chinese and Hawaiian cultures the latest CLOT collection is an absolute dream. The fun, colorful and textural collection was inspired by CLOT’s co-founder, Edison Chen’s many travels to and from China and Japan, (pre-pandemic, of course). Edison Chen who lives in LA often used Hawaii as his midpoint during his travels and he was able to experience the beauty and diversity the island offers.

The immersion of cultures present in Hawaii perfectly echoed the culture that CLOT wishes to bring into the world by bridging Eastern and Western culture. Eager to tap into the Chinese-Hawaiian influences, CLOT commenced researching on the Chinese immigrants present in Hawaii and a fashion mood board was built, comprising of vintage images of Hawaii’s Chinese diaspora portraying their blended culture and just like that, the Chinese Hawaiian collection was born.

Heavily influenced by how Chinese-Hawaiian immigrants dressed, graphics from Chinese Hawaiian restaurants and hotels, CLOT created a collection that is the perfect mix of casual and dressier styles perfect for the summer. With innovative ideas like including lighter fabrics like lace and mesh and mixing them up with heavier silhouettes like hoodies and trench coats to CLOT created pieces that are light and ready for the summer. Moreover, their eccentric nature and determination to create a hybrid experience motivated the use of intricate embroidery with interesting mixes of floral tropical Hawaiian patterns alongside traditional and iconic Chinese motifs. The collection also includes a mix of different fabrics and textures. Even CLOT’s signature pieces like their baseball shirt and silk shirts were remixed to fit in with the Chinese Hawaiian theme of the new collection. The goal was to create a mix of an unexpected and unique collection that celebrates both cultures and flawlessly fuses Hawaiian elements with Chinese themes.

CLOT felt the need to create a piece of art with each apparel. It is what pushed them to integrate surprising elements with unexpected graphic positioning, to ensure each piece looks like a fabulous work of art celebrating the different cultures. CLOT hopes to offer a tropical escape through clothing in these trying and uncertain times of the pandemic and give people something beautiful and unique to look forward to.
